Is Internet and Blogs, Really Threatening TV Channels?
- The debate of Internet threatening T.V is just hot-in up. As the web of internet is spreading to the remotest corner of the world and availability of high-speed broadband connection becoming cheap and easily available all over the world,..... the debate about "Internet and blogs seriously Threatening the existence of Television?" is gaining momentum. So, Is Net becomes so popular that it will kill the demand for TV Channels? And Blogs providing news will give News TV Channels run for their money? Is News Reporters will lose their jobs to blog writers?
Well, I think there is no straight Answer, May be the things will change and the out come will be totally subjective. But one thing is sure due to Competition the quality improvement and speeding-up of process will takes place. Infect both side will benefit from each other in the long run. If we take a look back in the past, we find the same cycle of events and same degree of skepticalism towards the change!
- First Movies threatened the existence of theaters (late 20's)
- Than TV steals the show from Radio and Movie Halls ( Remember the song – Video kill the Radio Star)
- Than movies makes come back with Tricolor pictures, which used to be shot by using three separate films and Later on the success of Wide-Screen films which has been shot using the cumbersome Camera’s like Cinderella in late 50's !
- Then comes, Cable-TV which stole the show in a flash ….
The Cycle goes on and who survived?
ALL OF THEM - Theatres, Movies, Radio as well as Idiot Box (TV)!!.... Besides giving competition to each other, with time they found balance, infect forms a co-relation between them, thus co-existing in the same time. Now questions arise, why news channels and reporters feel more threatened than other entertainment channels?
Well there are reasons for that, First of all both (entertainment & news) serves different purpose and the time-factors effects a News channel tremendously than any entertainment channel. Imagine – a major news which happens right in front of you and you armed with your first hand account of the latest happening, uploads the news on your blog, which spread over the Net like fire and the news channel come up with the same news in a day or two after, than no longer the news will Remains 'A breaking news '…But there is catch and that is authenticity of the news, as it is posted by the blogger. It's very obvious that, authenticity of news from established news channels will be far greater then any blog posting news. Also there is another side to it, if the blog posting news is a well established, consistent and genuine source; the visitors will surly come for news. And the blogs which not so established and popular will act as lead source for others until they break even. Also lets not forget that ethically in whole process of News hunting, the website no matters an independent blog or TV-channels website, should provide a link to the source.
Now some people debates about the -- content worthiness!
It is also very subjective as well………. How?
On the one hand, we have TV channels and news providers armed with the huge archives/resources of data in their hand and professionally trained, lead the content worthiness rating in more than one way and lets not forget they will be better-off with words!
But on the other hand their might be a bloggers, who is writing about their own professional field for Example – 1) An X-Army General writing about War in Iraq Or 2) An animator publishing reviews about the recent animated Hollywood flick on his blog.
Who will decide? ………..The VISITOR! (And mind it they no longer requires spoon feeding)
Yahoo and google has already recognized the power of blogs n social networks and added them on the side of their news search result page. Infect some search engine added blogs with-in news results, and just marked them clearly with letter W or B !
As for question of Seeing Internet as serious threat, is really very ridiculous and raised by those people and companies which lack talent. They should study the impact of internet n related factors over their business and evolve accordingly, Rather then criticizing each other! Only business who, recognize n keeps the pace with technology and become flexible to evolve in a short period of time will survive in long Run. As for the professionals, -- update your self, look for solutions and adapt! Infect join the gang and start bloging !
